Decoding the Enigma: Problems with Drug Impairment Evaluation Technology

Picture yourself on a routine Monday, you’re sipping on some coffee in an attempt to be conscious in the meeting. All of a sudden, a co-worker’s response for a recent project is completely off base and the room interest is sparked. Could it be more than just trying to escape sleepiness? That is the point of failure in identifying Drug Impairment Test.

Your simple yes-or-no surveys are NOT drug impairment testing!! Seems rather they wrap into a mystery littered over with layers of science. Do they saliva test, can we do Breathalyzer, send to the lab for a blood draw, or just urinate in a cup. While each has flaws, everyone gets high marks for both speed and accuracy.

Technology to the rescue. But it’s far from easy. But each has its own Achilles heel, rendering each saliva test, breath test, and a cocktail of breathalyzer ridiculous. Out the window with a moving-target issue, a hash of enjoyment and annoyance.

Everyone wants to know where people stand on the issue. Some see this as encroachment, a hovering surveillance arse—. Employers are literally walking a fine line here in hopes they don’t slip in their own PR minefield trying to balance safety versus privacy issue. This has been a difficult tug-of-war from whence it originated.

Imagine the courtroom scene: you are on the edge of your seat — like a chef cutting a Sunday roast — as lawyers dissect evidence. Making a silk purse out of the sow’s ear turning what might be misconstrued for the donors. We even see some captivating sagas stirring up for a blockbuster movie.

In the end the goal is to clarify a picture of muddle-headed entities. Society is navigating these low visibility obstacles just as one would try to decipher old scrolls of dull lettering. A hard road indeed; without a uniform bright answer we will continue the search persistently until maybe one fine day a breakthrough spawns that will piece together ever-body according to the rules ALL at once.
